  • MUSIC THERAPY | solfulmt

ABOUT MUSIC THERAPY Music therapy is a discipline in which Certified Music Therapists (MTAs) use music purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health, and well-being. Music therapists use music safely and ethically to address human needs within cognitive, communicative, emotional, musical, physical, social, and spiritual domains. —Canadian Association of Music Therapists Why music therapy? Music has been known to have a presence within every culture. It is a universal language that supersedes individual differences. For those who are non-verbal or have difficulty expressing their feelings, music is a form of communication that does not require words. It is a safe and beautiful outlet for self-expression. One of the key aspects required for growth and learning is personal motivation. Music itself is a motivator and can lead an individual toward therapeutic goals in a desirable way. Research suggests that musical processing is a multimodal experience accessing many different parts of the brain all at once. As music stimulates neural connections among brain cells, it provides optimal cognitive development for a person. Where can I learn more? Great questions! Christine Fabian BMT, MTA Hi, I'm Christine! I'm a Certified Music Therapist and owner of Solful Music Therapy. I bring a calm, gentle, and playful approach to my practice, tapping into each person's unique song and strengths to empower them to reach their goals. Upon earning my degree in Music Therapy from Acadia University, I went on to complete a year-long internship working in pediatrics at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto. For the past 10 years, I have been working as a music therapist in Edmonton primarily supporting children with varying needs. I have also provided music therapy programming within seniors homes, adult day programs, and group homes. My work with children led me to pursue Graduate studies at the University of Calgary focusing on autism spectrum disorder as well as supporting and enhancing children's wellbeing. I enjoy a good tea latte, creating (in many forms), and being a mom to my 3-year old twin daughters and my infant son. Bringing music into the day-to-day of parenthood has only reaffirmed the value of music and its positive impact, right from day one. Let's make music together
